● PROTEAS defender Karla Mostert, who has already made a mark in England, was the first South African to play in the Australian league, which is considered the best in the world. Mostert won the MVP in the Suncorp Super Netball Grand Final playing for the Sunshine Coast Lightning.

● EIGHT SA players are currently playing profession­ally across three countries. Maryke Holtzhause­n, Phumza Maweni, Charmaine Baard, Sigi Burger, Renske Stoltz and Zanele Vimbela in the UK, Lenize Potgieter in New Zealand and Karla Mostert in Australia.

● DID you know Netball’s first World Cup was held in 1963. Out of the 14 events held so far, Australia has won 10 outright and New Zealand has won three outright. In 1979 Australia, New Zealand and Trinidad and Tobago all placed first because of the Championsh­ip structure of the competitio­n. South Africa’s best result was second place in 1995.
