Google drawn into Crimea map dispute

- Sputnik

MOSCOW: If Google does not correct the mistake showing Crimea on its maps as part of Ukraine, Russian lawmakers will contact the prosecutor’s office and communications watchdog Roskomnadzor to apply sanctions to the company under the law, says Vasily Piskarev, chairman of the State Duma security and anti-corruption committee.

“Our law allows us to take response measures against those who do not comply with the law. We will contact the prosecutor’s office and Roskomnadzor.

“A Google spokeswoman has assured us that there is no political component, just technical failures… We will meet in a month and resolve the issue whether (the violation) was eliminated or not… If not, then… you need to somehow understand that you can’t ignore the laws,” Piskarev said yesterday. |
