Don’t get hysterical over monkeys

-

THE report “Task team to deal with RK Khan’s pest monkeys” in The Mercury, February 8 refers.

The DA has just lost my vote. The DA’s health spokesperson Dr Imraan Keeka calling the monkeys “this scourge” reminds me of what Axel Munthe said: “The raging monster is not at the other side of the railing.”

The monkeys are desperate to find food. They would avoid being trapped inside with humans. Why are the windows open. Why not repair the aircon?

But what we should ask of Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi is: who is responsible for the financial collapse of the health system?

Monkeys won’t bite humans except if cornered and taunted. There is no way they could transfer any of the diseases he mentioned to humans.

All this is just creating a hysterical reaction. DR CHRISTO C COETZEE Umhlanga
