SHOWING THEIR SUPPORT…

-

DINALISE SWART,

a social work supervisor at the KZN Blind and Deaf Society, said they attended to show solidarity with fellow NPOs, which were verbally notified last week about cutbacks to state subsidies.

The society had not yet been informed if they would be affected.

Swart said the Department of Social Development’s decision would result in the NPO’s clients, as beneficiaries, being drastically affected and ultimately the quality of services rendered.

“Social workers are already overburdened and now, if you stretch them even thinner, the quality of service will be affected.

“As much as we would try to prevent this, it will be inevitable.”

EVASHNEE NAIDU,

the regional manager of the human rights organisation Black Sash, and part of the KZN Civil Society Coalition, said: “We are here to support our colleagues and peers in the sector. “We think any cut to their work will have a detrimental impact to the services of beneficiaries.

“As Black Sash and the coalition, we want to show our support and to say, an injury to one is an injury to all.”
