Sikhs in cabinet
AN Indo-Canadian Sikh cabinet minister, Bardish Chagger, was sworn in as the new leader of the House of Commons, becoming the first woman to hold the position in the Canadian parliament.
“This is a tremendous opportunity,” said Chagger, 36.
The rookie MP replaces House leader Dominic LeBlanc, and is one of the four Sikhs elected to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s cabinet in 2015, in a move that drew worldwide attention.
