Bushy bows out

- LOGAN GOVENDER

WELL-known former policeman Bushy Singh died on his 63rd birthday last Thursday after a battle against cancer.

Singh was an ex member of the now disbanded Durban Organised Crime Unit.

After he quit the SAPS several years ago, he and former policeman Allan Alford formed a private investigation company.

Singh died at the eThekwini Heart Hospital.

Owing to organ failure he was on a life support system for more than a month. He was plagued by ill health for some time.

Singh was one of the police officers who investigated the R31.4 million SBV heist in Pinetown.

The heist, planned and executed by dismissed police officers of the Chatsworth police station, SBV security guards and others in August 1996, was then the biggest bank robbery in the country.

Singh’s brother, Warrant Officer Robin Singh, a detective at the Violent Crimes Unit in Chatsworth, said Bushy’s death had left a void not only for family members but others whom he had known.

His funeral took place on Sunday.
