Varied week for officers

-

LAST Saturday evening a resident in Poplar Street called the Red Guard 24-hour control room about a person being assaulted in the street, operations manager Willie Reynecke told The Rep. Response officers were dispatched and found that the person who was being assaulted had broken in at a house. The officers remained on site until the police arrived.

On Sunday morning a resident in Fordyce Street called for help because there were suspects breaking in. Response officers were dispatched and apprehended one suspect, who was handed over to the police. That afternoon response officers were summoned by a panic alarm at a store, where they apprehended a person who was throwing stones at the business. The suspect was taken to the police with the store owner, but a few minutes later the store owner phoned and said that the community was damaging his property. Response officers were able to resolve the matter after the owner and suspect returned from the police station.

Also on Sunday afternoon response officers attended to a panic at the Department of Social Development in Ezibeleni. On their arrival it appeared the premises were on fire and the fire brigade was called. On further investigation it was established that gas bottles were leaking. They assisted in removing children aged between five and 14 years from the building and no one was injured.
