Mystery of accounts find

- By Zolile Menzelwa

THE find of Lukhanji municipal accounts seemingly dumped in the Aloevale area has raised the ire of locals.

An angry Annelien Geduld of Aloevale said she had recently found the municipal accounts in a stormwater drain in the vicinity of St Theresa’s Primary School.

The accounts, she said, included some belonging to people from town, Sandringham and New Rest. “I am highly upset. I am not the only one who is very angry about this. There are homes that have electricity disconnected because of non-payment. How can they pay when their accounts have just been dumped?”

Geduld said after finding the accounts, she went to enquire at the municipal offices and was later contacted to say that an investigation would be done into the mat- ter. “There are unemployed people in Aloevale who could have delivered the accounts,” she said.

Another resident of the area, Antonia Brecht, also visited The Rep’s office with a bunch of accounts he said he found in the same area.

“I went to Lukhanji to ask what could be done with the accounts and how they ended up in a stormwater drain. The guy I spoke to at the town hall said I should throw the accounts away or keep them for myself.”

He said his father had not received his municipal account for months, adding that “there are people who are not doing their jobs and who just do not care.”

The matter was referred to the Lukhanji communications department for comment but no response had been received at the time of going to press.
