Queenstown district in top three in Cluster B

THE QUEENSTOWN education district has been listed in the top three in Cluster B in the Eastern Cape.

The Rep reported (“Matric joy and sorrow,” January 8) that GHS obtained a 100% pass for the 24th consecutiv­e year while Queen’s College scored 98%, Hexagon High School 97.5%, Get Ahead 90% and Hoërskool Hangklip an impressive 100%.

Queenstown district director Nkosinathi Godlo said Queenstown was placed after Mthatha and Cofimvaba respective­ly.

Mention had to be made of Lavelilang­a High School of Zingquthu which showed an improvemen­t from 22.2% in 2014 to 72.22%. Zamokuhle High School in Sada improved from 20.5% to 68.8%, Nkosemntu Motman in Tambo Village from 35.6% to 65.3% and Sibonile High School, also based in Tambo, from 40.9% to 64.7%.

Ndlovukazi High School improved from 56.1% in 2014 to 75.9% last year with Phakamani High School in Hewu rocketing from 75% to 94.7%. Godlo said some schools had worked hard despite challenges including teacher shortages and pressure due to progressed learners who could not cope as they were not ready for matric.
