- By Kapa KaMajola

A SEWAGE spill in Sada which was first noticed on Sunday, has raised concern in the area.

A resident who did not want to be named citing fears of victimisation, said a nearby manhole was seemingly blocked, resulting in the overflow.

Children were playing in the contaminated water, sparking fears of disease.

A visit to the scene showed con-

are extended to two Sterkstroom matriculants, Hannalet Jordaan and Melissa Bartlett. Hannalet will start at Stellenbosch University and Melissa will be going into education. We wish them well in their studies.

Minke van Heerden will start doms floating in the sewage with a terrible smell emanating from the site.

The Chris Hani District Municipality (CHDM) oversees the functions of water and sewage in the area.

CHDM area manager Zuziwe Bukani said staff had been dispatched to work on the problem. The pipe had been blocked by foreign objects, resulting in the overflow.

“We have to use specialised machinery to remove the objects.” Grade 1 at Hangklip Laerskool. She is the daughter of IJ and Louise of Sunnyridge.

LOVELY rain fell in the district this week and farmers and townsfolk measured up to 15ml. Two weeks ago 36ml was measured, but unfortunately due to extremely high temperatures the grass had no time to recover. The drought continues.

VISITORS to the district over the festive season were Lorraine van der Berg, Michael Berry, Mary Hobson, Dave and Gen Moore. It was also lovely to see Ian and Coby Hansen, who have since returned to Johannesburg.

SAA made a donation of medical equipment to Doris Mbiko of Mzamomhle Care Centre. The donation was made possible by Yvette le Grange who works for the airline and still has roots in the area.

WEwish everyone a prosperous 2016.

SYMPATHY is extended to Rae Kemp, her children Donnie, Dalene and Robert and their families as well as the extended Kemp, Hart, Brown and Pringle families on the sudden death of Dallas after suffering a heart attack last week. Dallas was a well-known auctioneer countrywide having started out locally working for Elliott Brothers when he and Rae were married in the early 1960s. From here they moved on to the Bedford district where Dallas managed the property Cavers for Colin Ross, then to Bloemfontein where he was employed by Rodericks and finally retiring from Stockowners in Pietermaritzburg. Dallas and Rae returned to Cathcart, living on the farm Spanover where Dallas started breeding exotic birds before moving into town and then a few years ago retiring to Stutterheim to be near their son Donnie. While in the area Dallas was kept busy helping farmers with cattle selection and played a big part in the Fenfield Red cattle group. A memorial service was held in the Cathcart Methodist Church yesterday.

JOHAN Pretorius left for Abu Dhabi this week to join his wife, Koekie, who left earlier this month, on a visit to their daughter, Charmaine and her children. They will be back at the end of the month.

WITH the silly season over and done with, sport lovers are back on the greens, courts and golf course despite the searing heat being experienced. The individual stableford golf competition was won by Paul Hart on 44 points with Adrian Snelling second with 40 points on a count out from Kenny Brown.
