Talks on New-look Bonkolo Dam

THE future running of the recently revamped Bonkolo Dam is currently under discussion.

The dam, which has been the focus of a multimillion rand upgrade project over the past few years, including braai areas and a hall, is not yet ready for a formal handover.

Lukhanji spokesman Fundile Feketshane said funding from the environmental affairs department had realised the upgrade, with economic spin-offs in terms of jobs.

During the handover process, it was realised that “there were things that were not completed,” Feketshane said.

Discussions were also still underway on how the facility should be run and maintained and whether the municipality would be responsible.

“These questions are being evaluated and we shall announce the council’s decision once concluded.”

Feketshane said an apology was extended to the public for any inconvenience caused in the process. – Rep reporter
