Museum needs an upgrade

-

HISTORY fan of Queenstown writes: I recently planned a visit to the Queenstown museum but found the building locked and looking sadly neglected.

I was referred to the director of museums at the department of sport, arts and culture (a most helpful gentleman) who made an arrangement with the museum manager for a visit. During our visit we were plunged into darkness twice (and it was not due to load shedding).

The building is in a sad state of disrepair – the roof leaks, the guttering is falling down, the paint (what is left) is peeling and the grounds look like the Namib desert. If the building still belongs to Lukhanji Municipality why are they not fulfilling their obligation to maintain a public building of historical significance? Or does the responsibility lie with the department of sport, recreation, arts and culture? A response would be greatly appreciated.
