The municipal swimming pool - what to do?

- By Sonja Raasch

LUKHANJI Municipality is deciding whether to repair or to replace the municipal swimming pool in Top Town.

The Rep reported (“Soon in the swim” November 13 2015) that the municipality had indicated that the pool, situated in Trafalgar Street, had a large crack and specialised services were needed for repair.

At the time it was indicated that the repairs would be completed by mid-December with residents since asking The Rep, via Facebook, why the pool remained closed.

Municipal spokesman Fundile Feketshane, reacting to queries, said the pool was old “and due for a change”.

Various options were being considered, including whether repairs or replacement would be the most viable.

He appealed for time to be given to the local authority to finalise its analysis and budgetary processes, adding that it would announce the chosen option in the near future.

“We shall ensure that we fast track those processes as we are aware that the school children use it as well.”
