EFF criticises ill-informed candidate councillors

- By Bhongo Jacob

EFF party members from the Chris Hani district filled the Twelve Apostles Church in Komani on Monday to receive instructions from their leaders ahead of the local government elections in August.

People clad in red EFF regalia danced with their hands in the air as they sang and shouted “ANC must fall, Zuma must fall, Makanda must fall”.

Central executive election task force convener Zolile Xalisa told supporters they would need to pull out all the stops to remove the ANC from government.

He condemned party members who had unresolved disputes with other members, saying leaders should instead invest their time in becoming well-informed.

He criticised aspirant councillors who were not informed. “If you lack information, you are like an Avanza [taxi], going wherever it is driven, in any direction. That is what killed the ANC, people who lack information and people who do not want to read.”

He told members to use social media to promote the party’s message. “We want councillors who will visit the schools in the area they serve and know all the students who are struggling. As a councillor you must know all the struggling families. That is the councillor the EFF wants.”

Xalisa invited close to 50 EFF councillor candidates to come to the front to commit themselves to their proposed tasks.
