Golfers tee off against cancer

Ladies’ hockey team pick up crushing victory over Buffaloes

- On June 4, golfers played in the Sanlam Cancer Challenge. The format was individual stableford. The results were as follows: Men’s A division: In first place was Derek Jones with 46 points, followed by Morné Williams with 39 points and third was Barry Kleinhans with 30 points.

Men’s B division: First place went to Kyle Blom with 46 points, Wessie van Deventer came second with 37 points and Pete Rautenbach was third with 36 points. Men’s C division: First was Ant Mundell with 42 points, second was Noel Kieck with 38 points and third was Ernst du Plessis with 35 points.

In the ladies’ B division the winner was Nicky Flanegan with 27 points followed by Elze Nel with 26 points. The ladies’ C division was won by Eleanor Sparks with 40 points followed by Di Eb with 27 points. The regional finals take place in King William’s Town on August 21.

On Saturday, Stutterhei­m golfers played in the Square Deal sponsored golf day. The format was betterball stableford. The winners were Buck King and Pete Hartley on 43 points, followed by Reece Daniel and Ernst du Plessis on a count out from Craig Rance and Kyle Blom (third), Gray Edwards and MJ van der Vyver (fourth), Eric Wylde and Derek Jones (fifth) and Brandon Hartley and Michael Daniel (sixth) all on 42 points. Closest to the pin on the third/12th was Noel Sparks and on the ninth/18th was Greg Wylde.

Hockey: On June 4, the ladies’ A team had an 11-0 win over Buffaloes at Kat Leisure Park. Teagan Barraud scored nine goals (must be a record!) and Mandi Swift scored two.

Unfortunat­ely the ladies’ B team lost both their matches 0-4 and 1-3 to Old Boys and Africans respective­ly. Daniella Schultz scored their only goal.

On June 5, the men’s side beat Bohemians 3-2. Stutt’s goals came from Kyle Blom, Stephanus de Kock and Greg White.

parkrun: On June 4, 34 athletes completed event #84 in rather chilly conditions. Joshua Coetzee did his 50th parkrun and became our first Junior to obtain Club 50 status, obtaining a personal best of 22.45mins in doing so.

He has also done parkruns at Boxburg, Ebotse, Reitvlei in Gauteng as well as Kidds Beach and Sunrise-on-Sea in East London.

On Saturday, 50 very brave athletes completed event #85 in freezing conditions. Many of the participan­ts were visitors from East London who then went on to do the Stutt Stumble 15km or 5km races organised by Round Table 103.
