Cup inspiring boxers, says Mapeyi

THE Mayoral Cup games have been a great motivation for boxing in the Chris Hani municipal area, with tremendous growth having been witnessed in the past four years.

This was the opinion of Chris Hani Amateur Boxing Organisati­on secretary Mabhuti Mapeyi, following the final of the Chris Hani Mayoral Cup games in Engcobo on Sunday.

“The fight between Lukhanyo Matiso, gold, of Queenstown Boys Boxing Club (QBBC) and Ayabonga Tyhiliko, silver, was the bout of the tournament, while Ekuphumlen­i Boxing Club pugilist Abenathi Tyika, gold, got the boxer of the tournament award in his match against Simamkele Njila of Xhala Boxing Club.”

Gold medallists were Tama Nthetha, Ayanda Tshibo, Kamva Qaku, Siyavuya Yona, Siphosethu Tshibo, B Nguzulwa and Athule Nge- biyane from QBBC.

From Xhalanga, gold medallists were Simamkele Mangaliso, Pumlani Mdunyelwa, Sinawo Mncwana and Mihlali Mfuleni.

Ekuphumlen­i Boxing Club of Whittlesea registered three gold medals from Siyanda Twebile, Yanga Mpayipheli and Tyika.

Silver medallists were Likhona Mavu, Anam Khawana, Liyabona Malgas, Thabo Lwabo, Alakhe Dastile, P Mantshinya­na, Liyema Ngesi, Luvuyo Yedwa, Lutho Mantyi, Zusiphe Madyosi, Sinawo Mncwana, Siyanda Sitwebile, Vuyisile Makeleni and Somila Joda.

A boxing league will start tomorrow with Tambo Boys Boxing Club taking on Tiger Boxing Club in Tambo Village Hall, while Ekuphumlen­i will take on Indwe Boxing Club in Dongwe Hall.

On Sunday, QBBC will face Xhalanga and Eyasekasi will take on Sada at the Thobi Kula centre.
