Who will pay for damages during unrest? Record straight

-

NOT impressed of Komani writes: Both Lukhanji Municipality and the municipal workers owe the ratepayers and residents of the town, who pay their salaries, an explanation.

Who will pay for the damages done by the striking workers, the loss of productivity, the work which came to a standstill?

Why did the local authority not intervene and sort out this issue before it became such a burning point and why do the workers think they have the right to destroy property which does not belong to them?

Some kind of letter or communication with the residents of Komani would be appreciated – both to ensure that people actually keep paying for services which are not being delivered and just as a basic matter of courtesy. SIMON Bokwe of AbaThembu writes: It is disturbing to discover our history being distorted. I recently met a student from Walter Sisulu University and when I asked where AbaThembu come from, he said from across Mbashe River.

It is important we preserve our indigenous knowledge. I released a statement about the arrest of AbaThembu King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo due to the pressure from the AbaThembu wanting to know where their king is.

In uniting AbaThembu we must engage in dialogue, discuss critical issues and not fight with words in the media. When I speak on behalf of AbaThembu, I refer to the nation of AbaThembu. PLEASED of Komani writes: On behalf of the residents affected by the power outages we experienced last week in the Queen’s College area, I would like to express our grateful thanks to all the local and out-of-town folk who assisted in resolving the problems in spite of the difficulties you faced. It is greatly appreciated! PLEASED of New Rest writes: Be alert New Rest community! We are surrounded by thieves that will steal anything from the elderly.

Ten points to the commander from Mlungisi police station Brigadier Gcinikhaya Taleni and his team that was on day shift on July 17.

Amazing assistance from the police and an informer led to the retrieving of my ladder that was stolen from my yard in St John’s Street on Saturday evening. Neighbourhood Watch – be on the lookout!
