School under investigation

THE provincial education department has commissioned a new investigation – this time by a private company - into the operations of KwaKomani Comprehensive School

The reports on the two most investigations into the school have still not been made public.

Komani education department district director Nkosinathi Godlo confirmed the investigation when approached by The Rep for comment yesterday morning.

He said the department had a strategy to deal with the issues at the school.

“Due to certain considerations, the department has decided to take someone from outside to do the investigation. It will look at various matters including functionality of the school and of the school governing body, financial management and the core business – curriculum matters,” Godlo said.

Other issues to be investigated were governance, infrastructure provision and a look at what resources were available at the school as it was a comprehensive school with technical subjects.

Godlo said the investigation, which would also look at issues of staffing at the school, was not targeting any individuals.

“Since there were accusations and counter accusations in the school, the investigation will check everything and the intention is to inform acting superintendent general Siza Netshilaphala, where she can intervene and help.”

Asked if the results of the two previous investigations by the department’s risk management unit and legislature portfolio committee on education would be released, he said no.

“All other investigations and outcomes will cede to this one and there will be a consolidated final report.”

Godlo said everybody now had the opportunity to give information pertaining to matters being investigated.

“No one will be victimised so people must feel free to share information with the investigators.”

Principal Victor Pakade also confirmed the investigation but would not comment further.
