No action yet on municipal pool

THE municipal swimming pool in Top Town, Komani, remains in a dilapidated state, over a year after a crack put an end to the use thereof by bathers wanting to cool down during the summer months.

The Rep visited the pool situated in Trafalgar Street this week and found a building full of broken windows. The gates to the premises had been smashed and doors to storage rooms seemingly broken open. The main pool and adjacent paddling pool remain empty and dirty.

The Rep reported (“Options on pool, January 15“) that the then Lukhanji Municipality was deciding whether to repair or replace the swimming pool following an indication in November 2015 that the pool had a large crack.

Enoch Mgijima Municipality spokesman Fundile Feketshane this week confirmed that no repairs had been effected.

He said an investigation into the state of the pool had, however, been concluded with a detailed technical report on related costs carried out.

“We are now in the process of identifying a funding source so that it is repaired and a maintenance plan is developed and put it place. We must state unequivocally that we owe it to our communities as part of a social amenity to support our local communities and schools and we shall keep everyone posted to ensure that it yields positive benefits (
