OFFICE PARK ON THE CARDS FOR KOMANI
To be built at Komani Hospital site
The Department of Roads and Public Works is building a new R124-million office park at the Komani Hospital to bring together several of the government departments operating in the area onto one site.
MEC Thandiswa Marawu, speaking at the sod-turning ceremony of phase two of the project, said the department of education and sports, arts, recreation would be the first to relocate to the new offices.
“As a department we have started the approach of saying let us get rid of the properties that we are leasing from privately owned landlords. We are doing this to save costs.
“We want to have a one stop centre where all the departments in one place and there will be no need for people to drive around Komani to the various departments in order to get services from the provincial government.”
It is believed that the project will be completed next year. The project has been welcomed by the Chris Hani District Municipality (CHDM) executive mayor Kholiswa Vimbayo who said the project would create jobs for locals and SMMEs.
The centralisation of all departments in one location would assist in various ways as the work of the different departments complimented one another.
She said a lack of space had, in the past, had a demoralising effect on staff which the new buildings would address.
Her words were echoed by Enoch Mgijima executive mayor Lindiwe Gunuza Nkwentsha.
She said rates to be paid on the property will assist with the development of the new municipality.
The project marked a massive investment into the area.
“When all these departments are [based] here, there will also be a new route for the taxi industry, so this will benefit another sector and will also help us to share resources.”
