Distribution depot for Komani
A PARTNERSHIP between JSE-listed supply chain specialists Cargo Carriers and Ezethu Logistics opened a new satellite depot in Queendustria last week.
Cargo Carriers have been distributing construction materials for Afrisam and chief executive Murray Bolton said the new facility would help with growth and infrastructural expansion projects in the Eastern Cape.
The Komani office will provide logistical services to PE and East London centres and help with the sharing of skills in the region.
“This is a very important day for Ezethu Logistics and Cargo Carriers,” Bolton said. “This signifies an extension of a relationship that Cargo Carries and Ezethu have had with Afrisam.”
Bolton said the companies had been involved with Afrisam for over 30 years.
“The extension of our business in Eastern Cape continues with employment in the province. It is an important benefactor, due to the need for the transfer of skills set to take place in this region.”
He said the latest venture comes at a time when Cargo Carriers were celebrating 60 years in business.
He said the business was positive about the potential for development in the Komani area and had thus worked hard to ensure that the business was established here.
“There is a large population here and people need jobs. The project needs to be here.”
Divisional director Nico Gerber said opportunity for local businesses were also being created.
“We have about 35 sub contractors, who are working with us and we have given work to 72 drivers from the area,” Gerber said.
“We have also created job opportunities with regards to the admin and the operational functioning and for us that is an achievement.”
Gerber said he had been impressed by the development in the area.
“For us to be a part of that and to deliver the cement together with Afrisam is a wonderful achievement.”
