Chris Hani REC disbanded
THE ANCYL provincial task team (PTT) has disbanded the regional executive committee (REC) of the league in the Chris Hani region.
The move follows a PTT meeting on January 21, when the state of the party in the province was considered.
In a statement, PTT coordinator Ntombikayise Mnyengeza said soon after the provincial structure was appointed in November it visited regions to interact with RECs, sub-regions and branches.
Mnyengeza said the visits were the result of a report compiled by the national working committee of the ANCYL which indicated the poor state of the ANCYL in the Eastern Cape.
The Chris Hani region was not the only one affected by the disbandment in the province.
“The PTT, after going through an analysis of the report from visited regions, made some resolutions. The PTT disbanded the Chris Hani, Buffalo City Metro, Joe Gqabi and Alfred Nzo regions. The PTT decided to replenish the existing RTT of Amathole as it was appointed in 2013,” she said.
The provincial leadership structure will develop a political programme focused on cadre development in each region and appoint new regional task teams.
This process, she said, should be concluded within two weeks.
Speaking to The Rep by phone on Tuesday, Mnyengeza said the management committee at provincial level would draw up the terms of reference.
The role of the RTT would include recruiting new members and reviving branches in anticipation of the elective conference.
It is not the first time that the REC of the ANCYL has been disbanded in the region.
Following the disbandment of the Ayanda Matiti-led ANCYL PEC in 2013, the region was disbanded.
This led to the REC, led by Lusanda Sizani as chairman and Luvuyo Gatyeni as secretary, being disbanded.
Sizani is now the regional secretary of the ANC while Gatyeni is part of the PTT.
After said disbandment, the Chris Hani District Municipality political head for integrated planning and economic development, Sibongile Mbotshane, was appointed as convenor and Enoch Mgijima council speaker Mzoxolo Peter as the coordinator.
Sizani attended the meeting at which the Mbotshane-led RTT was introduced and supported the decision to disband the REC he led.
Mbotshane and Peter were later elected as chairman and secretary respectively. Neither responded to text messages asking for comment.
