Officer helps woman during bridge attack

EARLY last Wednesday morning, a Red Guard response officer on patrol noticed a suspect robbing a woman on the Kingsway Bridge, operations manager Willie Reynecke told The Rep. He apprehende­d the suspect and escorted the woman to the police station where the suspect was handed over.

In the early hours of Thursday, officers responded to a panic alarm at a house in Longhill Street.

On approachin­g, they saw a suspect running from the house and apprehende­d him. He had broken into the garage and stolen garden tools. The stolen goods were recovered and the suspect handed over to the police.

That night, officers on patrol noticed the windows of two businesses in Robinson Road had been damaged and broken. They informed the owners and the suspect was apprehende­d, but was released as he is mentally ill.

On Friday morning, response officers were summoned by a panic alarm to a tavern where they apprehende­d two suspects who had grabbed some money and a case of beer before running away.

They recovered the stolen property and the suspect was released after the owner declined to open a criminal case.

On Saturday morning, security officers at a hardware store apprehende­d a suspect who had stolen a cordless phone two weeks previously and had been identified on the closed circuit television footage. He was handed over to the police.

That night, the security officer at a fuel depot alerted the company’s 24-hour control room about a theft taking place at a neighbouri­ng business. Response officers apprehende­d two suspects on site who had stolen diesel and equipment. – The Rep reporter
