Ezibeleni post office to reopen its doors
THE Ezibeleni post office is set to reopen next month after a long closure that has left many residents complaining about the inconvenience.
Speaking to The Rep this week, acting post office communications officer Nontyantyambo Vumazonke said a meeting was held with the property manager, ward councillors and community members last week.
“The Ezibeleni post office is just about to be completed. Maybe by June it will be ready for operations.”
The post office closed in December 2015 following a fire that damaged equipment and documents.
While it was closed, vandalism of the building and surrounding fence was reported.
The Rep paid a visit to the building this week and workers were seen clearing debris while a worker who did not want to be named said work began a few weeks ago but they were not sure about the exact date for the completion and opening.
It was good news for Ezibeleni residents who hope to once again have access to postal services on their doorstep.
Zizipho Mqabi said it would be good not having to travel to town to make use of the Komani post office.
“They must speed up the work and open. The people have been waiting for a long time.”
Yolo Sithunzi said there should be tight security after the reopening.
“It is still unclear who or what caused the fire and no one will ever come forward with names of the people who have been vandalising the building so they must have a security guard on the premises all the time.”
Lungelo Mgweba said he had been unable to access his postbox for over a year.
“This [the reopening] will make things better.”
