Bail for accused in conspiracy to murder attorney
THE third of three accused in the conspiracy to murder a local attorney, Zolile Matiwane of Matiwane Attorneys, was granted bail in the Komani High Court last Friday.
The accused include the ex-wife of the proposed victim, Anathi Fulani, and two foreign nationals – both from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Gognin Zamre’s bail application could not be heard by the court on March 23 when his co-accused, Fulani and Samken Gankini appeared, as his legal representative was not present in court.
The Rep reported (“Bail for two alleged hitmen”, March 31) that Fulani, a social worker and the mother of twins, and Gankini were granted R5 000 and R1 000 bail respectively.
The court heard how Fulani allegedly approached Gankini, with whom she was allegedly involved in a romantic relationship, to have Matiwane killed.
Matiwane opened a case with the Mlungisi police after one of the alleged hitmen informed him of the alleged plot to murder him.
Fulani’s legal representative, Advocate Mark Botha, said his client denied dating Gankini.
Zamre received R1 000 bail on Friday and the case was postponed to June 2 for further investigation.
Manelisi Griffiths of Griffiths Attorneys appeared for Gankini, Zamre was represented by Zukisa Nomlala of Legal Aid with Fulani represented by Botha as instructed by Bowes McDougall Inc.
The interpreter was Robert Muchinga.
