Task team wants Masualle back

- BHONGO JACOB

THE ANCYL members in the Chris Hani District who are part of the Regional Task Team (RTT), want the Eastern Cape premier Phumulo Masualle to run for a third term in office.

Masualle, who is also the chairman of the ANC in the province, is being challenged by ANC provincial secretary Oscar Mabuyane.

RTT regional coordinator Lusanda Mahashe told the media at a press briefing last week that they wanted the status quo to remain and were fully supporting Masualle to continue as chair.

“We agree with Chris Hani District Municipality mayor Kholiswa Vimbayo that Masualle must remain and we are rallying behind him to remain for a third term because we have seen great leadership from him. He has not finished his term, but he has done wonders.’’

He also accused the media and opposition parties of negative reports about the organisation.

“The media and opposition parties make it seem like we are divided with lots of problems and that we are not united. The constestation in the ANC is a culture and it is very healthy.”

However, Mahashe said whoever won would have their support.

His words were echoed by RTT member Papama Madubedube who said there were people who wanted to be in power to enrich themselves.

“We are trying to avoid such mischievous practices as they are foreign to the ANC. The ANC is a liberation movement and must put the people’s interests first.”
