Ramaphosa to visit Whittlesea
DEPUTY President Cyril Ramaphosa will visit two projects in Whittlesea today as part of his duties as the chairman of the Public Employment Programme Inter-Ministerial Committee (PEP-IMC) and as the champion of the Public Employment Programmes.
His spokesman Ronnie Mamoepa said Ramaphosa would also interact with Expanded Public Works Programme participants, visit the Nomaxabiso White Door Centre of Hope at the Whittlesea police station and Ncedisizwe NGO in Dongwe.
“Ramaphosa will walk about at various projects to assess the impact of the programme in alleviating poverty and unemployment through the provision of work opportunities to the poor and unemployed people of the Eastern Cape.”
Mamoepa said the public employment programmes were implemented under the auspices of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) and provided training and short- to medium-term work opportunities for the unskilled and unemployed South Africans.
“The PEP-IMC comprises the deputy president and ministers who are responsible for Public Employment Programmes and their directors-general. It has been established to provide a high-level and collective leadership to achieve better synergy among PEPs and to ensure the government achieves its target of creating six million work opportunities by 2019.”
A public participation programme will be led by Ramaphosa at the Sada Sports Ground at 11.30am.
