Thefts thwarted by quick thinking response officers

LAST Tuesday morning, Red Guard response officers attended to a panic alarm at a shop where a person doing deliveries was robbed of cash and the key to his motorcycle, operations manager Willie Reynecke told The Rep. The officers chased after the suspects and managed to apprehend one. They recovered the key but the suspects with the cash escaped. The suspect was handed over to the police.

That night the security officer posted at a scrap metal dealer called for assistance after he noticed a suspicious vehicle standing close to the site. Response officers were dispatched and apprehende­d a suspect who was in possession of drugs. He, too, was handed over to the police.

On Friday morning, the owner of as business in Queensdust­ria called for assistance after a staff member stole a power tool. Response officers were dispatched and managed to recover the stolen power tool that was handed back to the owner. The staff member was released after the owner declined to open a criminal case.

On Saturday afternoon, response officers on patrol noticed a person lying on the tar in Griffith Street. It was establishe­d that the person was unconsciou­s after being run over by a vehicle that drove off. An ambulance was contacted and the response officers remain on the scene until a traffic officer arrived on the scene.

In the early hours of the next morning, the security officer on duty at Lukhanji Parks called for assistance after a person ran to him after being robbed. Response officers were dispatched to the gardens and apprehende­d several suspects who had robbed the victim. They were handed over.
