THREE CELEBS DIE IN HORROR CRASH

- ANDISA BONANI

JOYOUS Celebration singer and actor from Komani Siyasanga Kobese died in a “horrific” car crash which claimed the lives of four others between Komani and Jamestown at the weekend.

Speaking to The Rep, Kobese’s father, Norman, said the accident happened around 2am on Saturday and the scene was the most horrific he had ever seen.

“My daughter and her friends were travelling to Ngcobo to attend a wedding ceremony. Police reported that their car collided with another which had been towing a car on a trailer which got a puncture.

“The said car sped downhill towards a junction to Sterkstroom, where the driver lost control and the trailer hit the car with my daughter when he tried to swerve back on to the road. They all had head injuries and I could not look at my daughter’s face, so I identified her by her feet.

“The family is traumatised, especially her mother. Siya had called earlier that day to say she was coming to see us this weekend.”

Kobese died with entertainment industry peers actor and television producer Akhumzi Jezile of Ngcobo, actor Thobani Mseleni of Fort Beaufort and two other unknown people.

Komani police spokeswoman Captain Namhla Mdleleni indicated the deceased were between the ages of 30 and 40 and that a case of culpable homicide was being investigated.

Provincial department of transport spokeswoman Khuselwa Rantjie said, “A Hyundai i35 (SUV) from Komani with two male occupants towing a BMW IX35 on a trailer collided with a Renault Clio which carried five occupants who were all declared dead on the scene. Identification processes for the two other victims are still under way. The occupants of the SUV escaped unscathed.”

Various industry peers and the Minister of Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa shared their grief and shock on social media about the incident.

“We are saddened to hear the news of the tragic and sudden passing of young, talented artists. It is with great grief that we have lost not one, but five bright stars in the future of the country’s arts and creative industry.”
