Bodybuilder muscles in on SA, World Champs

- ABONGILE SOLUNDWANA

KOMANI bodybuilder and owner of Johnny’s Gym, Johnny Moutzouris, has made the cut for the South Africa and World Bodybuilding championships after competing in the Battle of the Titans competition in Cape Town.

Moutzouris came first in the Masters category and second in the Seniors category under 85kg.

The SA championships are due to take place in September and the World Championships in England in October.

Sadly, he will be unable to attend these events as he will be away on a trip, but he plans to compete in both events next year.

“I am starting to train now for them in order for me to get into the best possible shape. I am one of the best bodybuilders over the age of 40 currently in SA, and I want to prove this at the SA and World Championships, but it needs a lot of hard work.”

It was the second time that Moutzouris qualified for the SA championships.

He also competed in the Nelson Mandela bodybuilding championship via the Physical Cultural Association (PCA) last month in Port Elizabeth, where he was placed second in the Masters category and third in the Seniors under 90kg.

His latest show was The Rise of the Phoenix 4.0 which was also through PCA in East London over the weekend.

He was placed first in the Masters and first in the Seniors category, taking the overall Border trophy.

He said he had been dieting for four months prior to the competition and only had 3% body fat which required tremendous discipline and took its toll on the body.

He thanked his wife Lena and dedicated the wins to his son, Doukas. “I also thank the Johnny’s Gym members, friends and family for supporting me.”
