LAST Monday morning Red Guard response officers attended to a panic alarm at a cellular phone outlet, operations manager Willie Reinecke told The Rep.

They chased after two suspects who had allegedly stolen a speaker and managed to apprehend one, but the one with the speaker got away. The store owner declined to open a criminal case and the suspect was released.

That night the company’s 24-hour control room was called by a homeowner in Bergsig who had a problem with a person repeatedly ringing the bell at the gate. Response officers removed a person who was under the influence of alcohol and was looking for his house. The perpetrator was taken to the police station for assistance.

On Tuesday afternoon, response officers were summoned by a panic alarm to a house in Ezibeleni, where they had to assist a woman who was being beaten by her son. They remained on site until the police arrived because the woman was afraid of her son.

Response officers were summoned by a panic alarm to a general dealership where they apprehended a suspect who had alleged attempted to rob the store owner with an air pistol. He was handed over to the police.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, response officers attended to an alarm at a bar in the old army base. The officer noticed that a roof sheet was loose and secured with a big stone. The key holder was called and on viewing the CCTV footage it was found the suspects had indeed entered the business but had not had time to open the safe.

That afternoon the controller monitoring CCTV systems in the company’s 24-hour control room noticed a suspect jumping over the fence at a fresh produce business and gathering poles to steal.

Response officers were dispatched to the premises and apprehended the suspect who was released after the owner declined to open a criminal case because nothing had been stolen.
