What impact will the increasing fuel price have on you? The Rep Intern,

took to the streets to find out.

Davis Kinene from Komani

It is very unfortunate but the fact is people’s purchasing power is eroded because of the fuel increase. This means there will be an increase in other things including services and groceries. It is going to be worse – we will not be getting value for our money as before.

Mfundo Booi from Cacadu

We cannot afford the fuel hike price. I am working as a taxi driver and only two trips are costly. We will continue to suffer from poverty as we are only working for fuel.

Aphiwe Mkhangelwa from Ezibeleni

The fuel price hike has a bad impact on us. Even when we decide to leave our cars at home, still the taxi fares will increase. Can you imagine if us as motorists cannot afford this, how much more the poor are suffering. I think the government needs to be caring. Remember the majority that are affected are black people.

Nomonde Nokrexe from Mlungisi

I am a pensioner and the fuel price hike is affecting me negatively because the transport fee has increased too. The social grants are meant to take care of our monthly needs, not to spend on transport.

Chumeka Mgqwetha from Komani

I am sure the new president of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, has an influence on the petrol price hike. Food and fuel prices are high and we will be forced to leave our cars at home and use public transport. The president must find a way of deducting tax somewhere else. We cannot enjoy our weekend rides fully because of the petrol price.
