Focus on safe, healthy environment for kids

NOSHUMI Adel Ganca of Siphenathi Day Care Centre in Mlungisi has a passion to help and care for children.

Born in Komani, she attended Mpendulo Primary School and Fezeka High School in Cape Town before completing a Human Resources course in Langa before moving to Gauteng and then back to Komani.

Siphenathi Day Care Centre is based at 397 Balfour Street, Newtown in Mlungisi and was established in 2009.

She said business had been part of her upbringing, with her mother teaching the children to have a business mindset.

“I came to business after I saw there were children who were not being taken care of.

“Some of them were locked inside their houses because their parents had to go to work and others were left in the streets without anything to eat.

She said she started the crèche and a day care for parents who came home from work late.

“My aim was to start an educare where parents felt that even if they left their children with me, they still felt they are with their kids,” she said.

The day care centre focuses on bringing up children in a healthy environment, stimulating creativity and education and to make the child feel safe.

Educational programmes have been created, with dietary plans for the feeding of the children.

Ganca said self-determination was important for success. Women needed to be stronger, braver, more enthusiastic and become self-sufficient, she said.

She said society continued to undermine women, indicating that their place was “in the kitchen”.
