Kewuti told The Rep this week that the move helped his boxing career and called on government to support boxing to ensure growth in the Chris Hani District.
The Rep reported, (“Lack of sponsors floors pro boxers”, April 7 2017) that Kewuti believed boxing was held in scant regard in places like Komani with no future for professional boxers.
Kewuti said local promoters had flocked to bigger cities due to a lack of support.
Kewuti said this week professional boxing in Cape Town was vibrant and active and he had gained much by learning from other boxers.
“I am meeting new guys who have been in boxing for decades and they share their knowledge willingly. I also came searching for greener pastures in Cape Town, so employment has been on the top of my list.
“I now have a job, but my working times do affect my training. I make time for training regardless of the challenges. Professional boxers in Cape Town get attention, unless a boxer does not have discipline.”
Kewuti said the intervention of government and sponsors were needed to ensure that boxing in the Eastern Cape flourished.
