Adventist Church men to march against abuse

-

Men belonging to the Komani Adventist Church will be marching to the Tobi Kula Indoor Sports Centre after gathering for a devotion at the Mzi Skweyiya Hall in Mlungisi on Saturday.

The march will show opposition to the abuse of women and children.

March co-ordinator Zanoxolo Qali said the men would be praying and worshipping, asking God to intervene against abuse.

“As some women keep silent, we felt that this was not just a challenge for us as men in the church, but a challenge for all men to stand together in protest against the abuse of women and children.”

Targeted areas are Bongweni, Bhede, New Town and New Brighton with the petition to be handed over to Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality executive mayor Sisisi Tolashe or a representative from her office.

Qali said it was hoped that the petition would then be passed on to the relevant departments.

The march would be preceded by a devotion led by the pastors from the district while flyers would be distributed to people along the way.

“We hope men will accept Jesus as their personal saviour as they change their lives. Nelson Mandela once said that we can use sport to unite the people, so after handing over the petition, we will have a soccer match between Komani Church Football Club and Advent 11.”
