Officers kept busy with several break-ins

Early last Monday morning the CCTV operator at the Red Guard control room noticed a loose wire on the outside wall at a fresh produce outlet.

Response officers found two outside security lights had been stolen, operations manager Willie Reynecke told The Rep.

On Tuesday the company’s cash-in-transit officers, with the assistance of the community, apprehende­d a suspect at the Sassa offices who was allegedly stealing bank cards. He was handed over to the police. That night officers on patrol witnessed a person being robbed by two suspects at a filling station. They apprehende­d them and recovered all the items. The suspects had to be released because the victim was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and unable to open a case.

On Wednesday, officers who had attended to a panic alarm in Green Street found an angle-grinder and ladder behind a building. It was establishe­d the suspects had broken in at an adjoining business. The officers apprehende­d one of several suspects and handed him over.

That afternoon officers on patrol apprehende­d a suspect who had allegedly broken in to a house in Mager Street. The owner was working in Whittlesea and requested the suspect be handed over to the police and he would open a case on his return. Officers apprehende­d a suspect who had allegedly stolen the workers’ bags and phones in a store. The items were recovered and returned and the suspect handed over.

On Saturday morning officers attended to an alarm at the area Eskom building. They apprehende­d a suspect who had broken two office windows and handed him over. – Rep reporter
