ANCYL WANTS TROIKA TO GO

- ANDISA BONANI

The ANC Youth League in Chris Hani has called for the removal of the Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality troika and mayoral committee for failure to exercise their oversight roles in the cash-strapped municipality.

ANCYL regional secretary Apiwe Mkhangelwa said they had noted the failure of political leadership to hold the administration component accountable and that the mother body needed to make changes.

“The people have lost confidence in the ANC-led municipality which has continuously weakened over the past few months. It is for this reason that we call upon our mother body to promptly consider altering the political leadership in the municipality, in particular the troika and the mayoral committee. This move would ensure the deployment of ethical leadership and the return of proper oversight over the administration and proper usage of municipal finances and resources.”

Mkhanglwa said the call was not an attempt to challenge the ANC’s decision of strategically deploying mayor Sisisi Tolashe and municipal manager Chris Magwangqana to assist in turning around the troubled municipality.

“This strategic intervention has, however, yielded no results. Instead, we have observed the situation to have regressed significantly. The intervention has just exacerbated financial and administrative problems in the municipality.

“Maladministration and corruption in our municipality is visible for all to see. As a preparatory structure of the movement we cannot remain silent. We will do everything possible to root out such unethical tendencies and elements. These are worrisome tendencies that, if not attended to, have the potential to erode the moral fibre of our revolution.”

Mkhangelwa said the youth structure would not rest until the political leadership of local authority was changed.
