Queen’s College Bonanza fever

All 60 prizes to be awarded this year, with R160,000 main cash prize

-

t’s almost that time of the year again – time to enter the Queen’s College Old Boys’ Association Bonanza draw with the chance to win big!

The draw has been running for 29 years and funds raised are used to the benefit of the senior and junior schools, with a portion used to run the Old Boys’ office.

The majority of the funds have been invested and saved to cover the development of Bonanza Park, a townhouse project aimed at new staff accommodation.

Most of the sponsors of the draw are Queen’s Old Boys and local business owners, so a big thank you to all who contribute annually to make the Bonanza draw a resounding success.

The draw date has been set for October 26 in the Queen’s Hall. Tickets cost R300 and can be bought online or at either school or from many Old Boys around Komani, Port Elizabeth, East London and Johannesburg.

The main prize is R160,000 cash, in celebration of College’s 160th year.

Other prizes (60 in total) include cash, two hunting packages, vouchers (Hi-Q, Pick n Pay Family, Protea SPAR, Louis’ Sports, Shell Ultra City, The Vicky Butchery, Gaylards), TVs, braais, cell phones, power tools and more.

Ifor more information. New this year: Automatic e-mail: It will be sent to ticket buyers to confirm their ticket is in the draw once payment and ticket stub are received at the Bonanza office.

There are 60 guaranteed prizes: Last year, the draw sold about 2,400 tickets. The prizes that would have been drawn for the 2,500th and 3,000th tickets, were therefore not allocated. This year, the draw will have 60 prizes and these will all be awarded.

According to Julie de Bruyn of the Old Boys’ office: “If we do not sell the highest number drawn on the prize list, we will take the final prizes and re-allocate them to be drawn at lower numbers. So, no matter how many tickets are sold, there will be 60 winners.”

Last year, the draw was shown on the screen so participants could watch tickets being drawn. This year, it will be live streamed to the QCOBA Facebook page.

The draw also includes an incentive scheme with cash prizes for the boys at both schools to encourage them to sell tickets.

Fun Fact: Last year, Bonanza tickets were purchased by people in 18 countries worldwide.
