Valgas victory a real confidence booster

- ANDISA BONANI

Valgas FC beat 7 Stars 1-0 during a SAB Regional League match at the Dumpy Adams Sports Complex on Sunday.

The game saw the two teams battle it out for top spot in the stream B log standings.

Valgas players dominated the game in the first half, but had a tough time maneuvering their way to the goals as the 7 Stars defence line would not allow the ball to go near.

Eventually Valgas managed to get a scoring chance after numerous failed attempts and won the game 1-0.

7 Stars coach Vernon Jackson said the game served as a learning curve.

“The boys stuck to the game plan, but our main player was not there which affected us. We also have two injured players and another two who received red cards in previous games. This also played a major role, but we remain positive. We have played two games already, including the one we lost today, but we won the first one against Holy Kings.”

Valgas coach Melikhaya Mdingi said the game was a good start and that his team still needed to improve in order for them to win their next one.

“The game was a confidence booster for the boys and we needed it going forward. We have been doing well as a new team and I am proud of the way they have been playing. Our main focus is on the younger players who we want to develop into skilful players to win leagues such as this.”

Valgas are set to represent the Chris Hani region in the provincial Nedbank play-offs on Saturday at Dumpy Adams. The kick-off time is 3pm.
