Arrests for vehicle theft

Last Tuesday afternoon, Red Guard response officers attended to a panic alarm at a shop, operations manager Willie Reinecke told The Rep.

They apprehende­d a suspect on site who had broken the glass door of the fridge. He was handed over to the police.

On Thursday night, the security officer on duty at the municipal parks heard noises and, upon investigat­ion, he found four suspects raping a woman. He called for assistance and response officers managed to apprehend one of the four, who was handed over to the police.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, the company’s 24-hour control room received a call regarding a motor vehicle that had been stolen at the Queenstown Bowling Club.

A response officer on patrol in Blue Rise saw the stolen vehicle being driven out of town in the direction of Lady Frere. He followed the vehicle and called for assistance. The response officers managed to stop the vehicle and apprehend one of three suspects, who was handed over to the police.

After further investigat­ion, the police made more arrests and other stolen vehicles were also recovered in Lady Frere. This is reported to be a syndicate who had been stealing vehicles over a period in Komani and taking them to Lady Frere.

At mid-morning, response officers attended to a panic alarm at a clothing store. The response officer apprehende­d a suspect for theft from the shop and handed him over to the police.

On Sunday evening, response officers attended to an alarm at a furniture store, only to discover that a taxi had driven into the store. The response officers had to remain on site to stop people from entering the store and prevent the theft of furniture and equipment. They remained on site for almost an hour until the store manager arrived and a security officer was posted on site.
