Komani doomed if leaders loot
Not fooled of Komani writes: Hats off to the groupings of civil society that had yet another think tank to try to forge a way forward out of the quagmire that EMLM has created, which is destroying the town, as reported in The Rep’s editorial opinion (15 February 2019).
As laudable as their efforts are, the citizens of Komani find themselves in conflict with a lawless and rudderless local municipality that under no circumstances will enter into an agreement with anybody who wishes to better the conditions in the town.
They may be willing, as a result of pressure, to place on paper their willingness to accept some sort of token assistance or coming alongside but, as in the past, when it comes to implementation, they are nowhere to be seen and refuse point blank to implement what was agreed upon.
Even if the EMLM were to be placed under administration there would be no improvement as those appointed to fix the myriad problems would soon drown in the chaos of political interference and ineptitude.
Lack of expertise and skills needed to start normalising services and saving our towns from extinction is also a seemingly insurmountable problem.
To every right thinking person this seems like madness and it is. Enlightened and progressive leaders always look at ways of benefitting those they serve and lead and they continually lay down new foundations for future generations. This is clearly not something the EMLM or indeed, the national government leaders aspire to.
As the erstwhile political ANC leader Jacob Zuma said, “the party comes first and the country and its people come second”.
It is really as simple as that. As long as ANC politics dictate and their delusional leaders obfuscate and loot, we are doomed.
All that remains to do for those who seek good for themselves and others is to keep the existing and create new pockets of excellence where they can, and never allow themselves to become like those who, by their inaction and actions, are quite happy to stand by and feed at the trough of plenty while the majority’s futures are being destroyed.
