Thursday night, 10 Stutt High students went to Clarendon High School in East London for a South African Council for English Education discussion forum. The students had never had exposure to anything of this kind before and yet they performed meritoriously. They formed two teams of five, with one of them acting as chairperson, keeping the discussion on topic and in form.

Alizwa Mahlahla and Zuzole Ngcanga were both mentioned by name as doing particularly well in their respective roles. Alizwa kept her team on topic and maintained a dignified air in the discussion, while Zuzole spoke with great zest and passion. Both teams returned inspired to become great debaters, passionate orators and deep, critical thinkers. They have vowed to do better next time and wow the adjudicators and competitors.
