The Competition Commission recently recommended Vodacom and MTN drop data prices or face prosecution. The telecoms giants cited spectrum availability as the reason for the costs. The Rep intern Ntsikelelo Qoyo asked people in Komani for their reaction.

Data is a must these days.

Airtime is also expensive and runs out quickly. Data you can use for so much more, for communicating and other things. When it becomes inexpensive, that will help a lot because we use it for everything.

Leana van der Merwe from Dordrecht

I am excited because it is expensive. The fact that they do not even allow us to transfer the data we buy from one month to the next makes it worse. I hope it will come down in the next two months. It will be really helpful.

Aphelele Pasiya from Top Town

The prices are very high. It would be better if they drop. It ends so quickly as well. It costs us a lot to do the things we want to do. We use data for a lot of Facebook and WhatsApp.

Ntokozo Nzongwana from Dongwe

It is great news. We will finally be able to do more for less. People will finally be able to have access to internet and other things because life revolves around it now. Social media is a big part of life but even for work we need to be online.

Selma de Wet from Sterkstroom

I am very glad because I use a lot of data. I actually found out a long time ago that ours is very expensive. I used to visit my children in Taiwan and it was so much cheaper than ours.
