Kora meets on vital issues

-

Kora (Komani Residents Association) has sent condolences to the Xhosa nation following the death of King Zwelonke Sigcawu.

They stated, however, that they were disappointed to hear that there was an Enoch Mgijima council meeting on the day of the king s funeral, which they regarded as a lack of leadership.

Kora noted that the 30 days in which the legislature had requested the people of Komani to respond to their petition has lapsed.

The 30 days premier Oscar Mabuyane had asked for when he engaged Kora had also passed and there had been no progress on the matters discussed.

It is clear that when they “ came here they were not genuinely attending to the needs of the people but rather it was an attempt to make sure there would be no disturbance during the sitting of the people s parliament,” spokesperson Zolile Xalisa said.

Kora appealed to Cogta MEC Xolile Nqatha to release and table the Milowo and forensic reports so that if anyone was found to have done anything wrong, they could be held accountable.

They advised the MEC to consider former municipal manager Vuyo Mlokothi's recommendations on irregular appointments at the municipality.

When Nqatha spoke on behalf of Cogta at the people s parliament he confirmed they were aware of irregular appointments, Xalisa said.

They also wanted him to investigate the appointment of the current municipal manager Nokuthula Mgijima, because they had information that she was not vetted before being considered for the post. There is evidence to strongly suggest that hers was a political appointment for the benefit of special interests. In her previous job in Umzumbe municipality there was suspicion of her being involved in corruption.

In a municipality that is struggling with finances, we do not think it is prudent to appoint someone who may be suspect. She must first clear her name,” Xalisa said.

They congratulated the Chris Hani municipality on accepting the help of Ken Clark, who had offered to assist with expertise pertaining to the Xonxa Dam pipeline and said this showed leadership because they had chosen to put the interests of the people of Komani first.

Kora applauded the efforts of the people of Ezibeleni, who they said had worked together with the police when a child was reported missing.

They assured the people of Komani they would continue to fight on their behalf when business resumed in the New Year and wished all a safe festive season.
