embers of the Civil Servants Pension Redress Movement (CSPRM) met in Komani Park last week to elect committee members of the newly formed provincial arm of the national organisation.

A committee of six executive members was elected, with six additional members.

Stephen Sass and Donald Smiles were elected chair and deputy respectively, while Berenise Levack and Nomsa Bici are secretary and deputy.

The CSPRM is a non-profit organisation launched by retired civil servants disgruntled with the pension redress programme conducted by the state.

Sass said nationally the organisation was already moving ahead with their mission.

Our mission is to represent, “

Mengage and bargain on behalf of civil servants and encourage the organs of state to treat these people with the necessary respect and dignity and to restore the injustices of the past which negatively impact our members.

At the inaugural national

“convention last year in Cape Town there was a resolution to petition parliament to call for the repealing of the Public Servants Co-ordinating Bargaining Council resolutions of July 1997 and December 2012,” said Sass.

He said they were demanding a forensic audit on the pension redress programme, from the resolution stage up to payouts.

Smiles said he was enthusiastic about the new structure, which would embark on a huge recruitment drive in all six regions and branches throughout the province.

I am positive that the many “thousands of former civil servants who were not aware of the process and the closing dates will be given an opportunity to apply for restitution with their beneficiaries.

We will visit every corner of “the province to assist civil servants to become members of this non-profit organisation in reversing the wrongs of the past.

We request families to contact the new provincial office for assistance,” he said.
