MR AND MISS SUMMER QUEENSTOWN: TOP 16 STUDS AND BEAUTY QUEENS READY TO PARADE
Te Amor Promoting Co will hold its first beauty pageant, Mr and Miss Summer Queenstown, on Saturday, with the aim of raising funds to provide food items so that needy families can also have a dignified Christmas.
The founder of the organisation, Thando Khanya, has teamed up with six other youngsters to host the event, which is due to start at midday in the town hall.
They also refer to themselves as social influencers with the objective to reach out to the needs of broader society.
The group is a product of the the former Lukhanji Junior City Council, which was later changed to Enoch Mgijima Junior City Council after Lukhanji, Nkwanca and Tsolwana municipalities merged.
Though the group left school in 2017 to pursue tertiary education, the spirit of community service remained embedded in them.
Khanya, former president of the junior city council, said: We are continuing from where “we left off in the junior city council, which is why we established Mr and Miss Summer Queenstown.
The purpose of the project is to boost the self esteem of youth, who need a confidence lift to believe in themselves. Most youth do not understand their sense of self worth.”
The journey begins during rehearsal sessions prior to the event, where the youth are taught how to carry their bodies while walking.
We also prepare them on how to answer questions on the final day and organise a motivational speaker. Komani's Mrs Shirley Jones Ndaba, a Mrs SA finalist, will mentor the contestants and educate them about beauty pageants.”
The contestants also did community work on Monday, donating food items at Mzwabantu Hospice in Komani.
