The Rep

Questions for the mayor

- Concerned Komani citizen writes:

I refer to The Rep of 10 January 2020 which contains two articles about what the Chris Hani District Municipal mayor, Wongama Gela had to say about the drought/water shortages/quality, as well as the insert on Carte Blanche this past Sunday.

I request the mayor, in the light of the water shortage, to give details in your newspaper regarding the following incident: (Keep in mind that all citizens in SA are "equal" BUT some are "more equal than others, and ” therefore get "more equal treatment" as we have learnt already).

On 9 Jan 2020 at about 1.15pm, I saw a Chris Hani District Municipal water tanker (Reg no HYC441EC) standing in front of a house in Wapadsberg Road, with a pipe going over the wall and behind the wall (in the yard of this house) was a big water tank. What would this tanker have been doing there?

One of the employees shouted something about "permission" but I could not hear it all.

Can the mayor please explain in your newspaper for all citizens of Komani to see why water was delivered to this specific house?

If they did indeed deliver water, as it seems, did they pay for it as all users of municipal water should?

Were they charged for the water and extra for delivery (including diesel used, wages of the people doing the job, etc?). In the event that the mayor ignores this request to answer the above, I request the journalists of The Rep to take the matter further as this is not the first time I have seen these tankers moving around in town.
