YOUNG LEGACY PROJECT: TEN CHRIS HANI DISTRICT YOUTHS PRESENT BUSINESS MODELS

- ANDISA BONANI

Ten young entrepreneurs in the Chris Hani district presented their business models to a delegation from the Office of the Premier at the weekend, in the hope of becoming one of five to be selected for funding through the office s Young Legacy Project. ’

The businesses selected for presentations and interviews ranged from the visual and performing arts, to the medical field, software development and the media, to name a few.

The Chris Hani region SA Youth Council (Sayc), working with the district municipality s ’ special programmes unit (SPU), facilitated the application process, but the final selection will be conducted by the OTP.

Sayc co-ordinator Sakhile Mvana said the Youth Legacy Project was meant to be part of the Youth Month celebrations, which had to be cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The aim of the project is to

“assist youth-owned small businesses with whatever they may need to ensure their businesses remains afloat. Seven of them come from the “

Enoch Mgijima area, which shows the potential.”

Mvana said Sayc would lobby for more businesses to be funded as the Chris Hani district, made up of six local municipalities, was one of the province s largest.

He said Sayc would lobby for more businesses to be funded.

One of the businesses that sparked interest was a software company that could help municipalities identify water leakages in their pipelines and obtain accurate meter readings.
