Probe bottle store plans
This letter is addressed to the Eastern Cape premier, mayor and municipal manager of Komani and ward councillor for Top Town:
A few years ago, an attempt was made to open a liquor store at the corner of Frost Street and Kingsway, opposite Madeira Home. It was not approved.
Now there are rumours (which have been confirmed by different people) that the owners of said property want to open a liquor store, shop, hairdresser (and I do not know what else) on the same premises opposite Madeira.
Building work is already underway at said premises.
According to the rumours, the plans are already at the municipality.
What is of great concern is that said plans were approved
“” by a municipal employee (according to the rumours) though said premises has not been rezoned from residential to business.
This means the proper procedures were not followed by the official who approved
“” the plans.
The Heritage Council has also not been informed of this.
The above people to whom this letter is addressed are therefore requested to investigate if these rumours are true and if so, to take the necessary disciplinary steps against the official. Furthermore, if the rumours are true, they should, with immediate effect, stop all work being done at the premises until such time as all the proper procedures have been implemented and followed (advertisements etc) and the necessary permission has been received after all procedures are finalised.
Kindly confirm that the above has been done.
