What do you think about
Following the spate of land grabs in Mlungisi in Komani since Sunday, The Rep reporter Ntsikelelo Qoyo went to ask people in Komani if they supported the actions of the residents.
Joshua Goss from Victoria Park
You can understand that people have been promised land since 1994. That said, we have to consider our infrastructure. Is it designed to accommodate those houses? If it can, fine, but if it cannot, there is a problem. Right now we are struggling with electricity. I do not think it is a good idea, but people are being steered into this direction. I do not know by whom.
Athenkosi Maseti from Lady Frere
As a person not directly affected, it is hard to judge. I expect police to intervene at some stage, but I think the municipality also has to reflect. People will not just resort to such extremes unless there is a problem. To be honest, this municipality has been failing for a while.
Vusumzi Sikweyiya from Mlungisi
I support what people are doing. It has been more than 20 years of ANC rule, but nothing has happened in Mlungisi. People are struggling and have nowhere to stay. The land belongs to all of us.
The worst part of what is happening is we were born here, but have no properties. We are renting. I was there. I took three plots for myself. I fully support it.
Augustine Davids from Aloevale
I completely agree and support the people who went to get themselves land. Many people are homeless and are renting.
Ntombizanele Mthiya from Mlungisi
People have been living in informal settlements for years and the government has failed to provide housing. Instead they build expensive taxi ranks. People are correct to go and take land for themselves.
